What happens in the andrology laboratory?

The work of this unit is not limited to examining semen. Every sample received is assessed against laboratory standards and, where needed, prepared for treatment.

The laboratory provides services such as assessment of sperm quality, preparation of samples for IUI, IVF and ICSI, freezing and thawing of sperm, and support for the use of surgically retrieved sperm (TESE).

The purpose of all these steps is to prepare the best possible sample for the treatment that follows.

In this process the aim is to select sperm with better motility and quality for the treatment ahead, for use in methods such as IUI, IVF and ICSI.

The preparation method is chosen according to the quality of the sample and each patient's treatment plan.
