A micromanipulator is a set of very fine instruments mounted under a microscope, which help the embryologist move or guide an egg, a sperm or an embryo with great precision.
In effect the system acts as an extension of the embryologist's hand — except that its movements are far more precise, far steadier and entirely controllable.
It makes possible procedures that without such precision would be either impossible or extremely difficult.
A micromanipulator plays an essential part in many stages of fertility treatment, and without it some procedures cannot be carried out at all.
